Book 1 of The Antunite Chronicles – Antuna’s Story is absolutely enthralling. As someone who hasn’t delved deeply into science fiction before, this book has sparked a newfound interest in the genre for me, thanks to Terry Birdgenaw for sending me the trilogy pack. The storyline is incredibly creative and innovative, unlike anything I’ve encountered before, offering a completely original narrative. It’s a tantalizing read that kept me hooked from start to finish.
Antuna’s story is an incredible action-packed story. The plot is about a species of insects who are transported to another planet through a wormhole. Essentially being granted a do-over. The POV is from the descendants of the insects, and their narration is humorous and engaging with puns and jokes that kept me entertained throughout the story. The concept of this novel was fascinating and captured many crucial elements that come to the surface at the heart of a cataclysmic event. The story revolves around Antuna and her friends fighting for survival for their civilization on an alien planet. They have to learn to co-exist with the other species in a manner that won’t affect the equilibrium of the previous society.
I loved the mini-educational lessons sprinkled across, assembling intriguing information about insects and environmental science. The profound style of writing also captured my attention. The vivid imagery and the intricate details being consistently woven into the narrative kept me entertained throughout my reading. One aspect of the novel that stood out to me was the inclusion of an insect language dictionary at the back, it was an extremely unique and innovative addition. It also served as an interactive tool that allowed readers to delve deeper into the nitty-gritty of the story.
The novel also captures very significant themes, such as discrimination, propaganda, leadership, community, betrayal, manipulation, reconciliation, and justice. Each theme was displayed with depth and introspection. Stimulating reflection on the complexities of human nature and the society we currently live in. Terry covered very vital elements of life through snippets of friendship, cooperation in society, and empathy. I also adored the characters, From their witty remarks to their endearing quirks, they held a special place in my heart. Seeing the story unfold through their eyes added an extra layer of sentiment,
