Care & Pages: A READefining Futures Initiative
I’ve always believed that every child deserves the chance to discover the joy of reading. But one question stayed with me: What happens when a child wants a book and there isn’t one nearby? Maybe they’re sitting in a clinic waiting room, spending the afternoon at a community center, or simply don’t have easy access to a library.
That question inspired Care & Pages, a project under my non-profit: READefining Futures, a free mini library initiative that places books, activities, and games in clinics and community spaces, making reading and learning available wherever people already are.
My Love for Reading
Books have shaped who I am. They gave me a place to escape, learn, imagine, and grow. Long before I started my blog or founded READefining Futures, I spent countless hours getting lost in stories that introduced me to new ideas and different perspectives.
As I grew older, I realized that many children don’t have those same opportunities. Access to books isn’t always convenient, and sometimes the moments when a child could benefit from a story the most happen while they’re simply waiting. A book can turn an ordinary moment into one filled with imagination, curiosity, or comfort.
That realization became the foundation of Care & Pages.
My Mission
Care & Pages brings together books, educational activities, creativity, and games to encourage literacy, creativity, and lifelong learning in welcoming community spaces. Everything is completely free for visitors to enjoy.
Each library includes:
- Books for every age so children, teens, and adults can all find something they’ll enjoy.
- Puzzles, activity books, and games that encourage learning through play.
- Card and board games that help families connect while they wait.
- A welcoming space where anyone can discover something new, whether it’s a favorite book, a fun activity, or a quiet moment to enjoy.
My goal is simple: to make reading more accessible while creating small moments of joy throughout the community.
Why It Matters
Reading helps children build confidence, strengthen literacy skills, and develop curiosity that lasts a lifetime. Even a few minutes spent with a good book can spark new interests and inspire future dreams.
Waiting rooms and community spaces often bring together people of all ages. By placing mini libraries in these locations, Care & Pages transforms everyday spaces into places where people can read, learn, play, and connect.
Every shelf represents an opportunity for someone to discover a new favorite story, learn something unexpected, or simply enjoy a brighter day.
How Care & Pages Works
Care & Pages mini libraries are placed directly in clinics and community spaces where they’re freely available for everyone to use.
Each library follows one simple idea:
Take what you need. Leave what you can.
Visitors are welcome to borrow a book, complete an activity, enjoy a game, or donate items for someone else to enjoy. Community donations help keep every library stocked, allowing the shelves to continue serving local families.
The project succeeds because people choose to share. Every donated book, puzzle, and game creates another opportunity for someone to discover something meaningful.
How You Can Help
Care & Pages continues to grow through the generosity of the community. There are many ways to become involved:
- Donate gently used books, games, puzzles, or activity books.
- Help restock and organize a local library.
- Share Care & Pages with friends, family, and neighbors.
- Partner with us if you represent a clinic, school, shelter, or community organization interested in hosting a mini library.
- Support our mission by spreading the word.
Together, we can place more books into more hands and create spaces where reading is always within reach.
Free to use. Made to share. Meant to inspire.
